Has your faith ever been challenged? Whether it's by a family member, a friend, or a stranger online keyboard bully, your beliefs will inevitably be questioned. You might think you don't need to defend your faith and that it's not your concern if others don't believe—it's their loss. However, this isn't what God intends for you. As Christians, our mission is to evangelize (spread the Word) and make disciples (teach the Word). This is your responsibility, it's your job! But like any job, how can you fulfill this role effectively if you're not prepared? Without preparation, you may feel insecure and doubt your capabilities. This no different than a Christian who isn't ready to defend the Bible. You won't be able to respond to challenges, and even worse, you might begin to question your own faith. Just as an atheist is always prepared to present their arguments, a Christian should always be ready to articulate their beliefs.
The book of 1 Peter was authored by Peter, likely during his time in Rome around AD 64. At that time, Christians were dispersed across the Roman Empire and experiencing persecution for their beliefs. Peter wrote to these Christians to offer them comfort with the promise of eternal life and urged them to persist in living in Christ. When Christians live in Christ, they share in Jesus' suffering. However, Jesus remains our hope amid suffering, and we should exemplify this by enduring our trials through faith.
1 Peter 3:15 encourages Christians today not to keep their faith private. Instead, we should share it with others respectfully. We must always be ready to explain the reasons behind our life choices, allowing others to see our hope in Christ. This requires us to be prepared to testify about what He has done in our lives at all times.
Prayer: Dear Lord, we recognize that we have a mission to fulfill on earth. Our faith is not meant to be kept to ourselves; we are called to share it. You have entrusted us with the task of spreading Your Good News and teaching others how to live through You, and You have provided each of us with unique gifts to accomplish this. Guide us in studying Your word and comprehending how to apply it into our lives. In Jesus' name...Amen.
