People will often want to hear only what feels good, not the full truth of God’s Word. This verse reminds us to stay rooted in Scripture and be careful of teachings that just satisfy our desires.
People will often want to hear only what feels good, not the full truth of God’s Word. This verse reminds us to stay rooted in Scripture and be careful of teachings that just satisfy our desires.

I felt led to share this blog after seeing a post from a proclaimed Christian about who Jesus is and what He came to do. But the post was full of false teachings. What concerned me most was that it wasn’t just full of false teachings, it also mixed in truths and half-truths. This clever combination makes the false teachings seem completely true. You might be wondering, what are “false teachings”? In Scripture, these are ideas or beliefs that seem true or sound spiritual but actually go against God’s Word. They may be convincing, but they can mislead us if we’re not careful.

Let me break it down for you:

  1. Twisting Scripture – Taking a verse out of context to support personal agendas.

Example: Using Philippians 4:13 (“I can do all things through Christ”) to justify selfish

ambition, ignoring the surrounding call to live in humility and obedience.

  1. Adding or Subtracting from God’s Word – Saying God has given special new messages or secret knowledge that aren’t in the Bible.

Example: Treating “new scriptures” or modern prophecies as if they are equal to God’s Word.

  1. Misrepresenting God’s Character – Teaching things about God that Scripture doesn’t support.

Example: Claiming that God always wants us to be rich or never face problems ignores what the Bible teaches about trials, struggles, and the need for perseverance.

  2. False Promises or Works-Based Salvation – Saying that doing certain actions or rituals can save you, without trusting in Jesus.

  3. Distorting Jesus’ Message – Downplaying the seriousness of sin, ignoring the need for repentance, or focusing only on parts of the Gospel that appeal to personal desires.

A simple way to remember: false teachings may sound right and feel convincing, but they don’t match God’s Word or His character.

For those who have not read scripture or don't read it regularly, I suggest start with reading the Gospels. Here’s why:

  1. They Focus on Jesus’ Life and Teachings: – The Gospels which is the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, show who Jesus is, what He taught, and why He came. This gives a strong foundation in the Christian faith.

  2. They Introduce the Gospel Message Clearly: Here you will learn about salvation, God’s grace, true love, and how to follow Jesus in a simple and clear way.

  3. Stories Make Scripture Relatable:  Parables, miracles, and real-life examples help readers see how Jesus’ teachings apply today.

  4. Builds a Foundation for the Rest of the Bible – Once they understand Jesus and His message, you can better understand the Old Testament, the letters in the New Testament, and how everything points to Him.

I recommend starting with Mark because it’s short and action-packed, or John because it focuses on Jesus’ identity and eternal life.

In Conclusion

  • I want to encourage everyone reading this Blog, to stay grounded in God’s Word, study it carefully, and pray for wisdom. When you ask for discernment, the Holy Spirit will guide you and warn you when something isn’t true. Satan is a liar and very clever, but God is stronger and always in control. He can protect you, and Satan can only deceive you if you let him.

  • False teachings can sound convincing or even spiritual, but they can slowly pull us away from God’s truth and the life Jesus offers. They may seem harmless at first, but following them can lead us into confusion, sin, and distance from a close relationship with Christ.

  • I encourage you to check everything you hear or read against God’s Word every day. Not every teaching or idea is true, so testing it with Scripture will help you stay on the right path and grow stronger in your faith.

Prayer:

"Lord, grant us discernment to recognize truth from falsehood. Help us to stand firm in Your Word, to seek Your wisdom, and to walk in Your light. Protect our hearts from deception and guide us in Your ways, that we may honor You in all we do. Amen."
