The book of Esther resembles a real-life drama full of unexpected events. It tells the story of a young Jewish woman named Esther who becomes the queen of Persia. Her people face a threat due to a malicious scheme by Haman, a powerful official. Although God's name is not explicitly mentioned in the book, His influence is evident throughout the narrative, positioning Esther in the palace "for such a time as this" to rescue her people.
I am frequently asked how the Bible remains relevant today. In the story of Esther, we encounter situations where we must choose between comfort and bravery. At times, we find ourselves in unexpected situations where we have the opportunity to make a difference. Even when God seems absent in our lives, He is continuously orchestrating events to fulfill His purpose.
"And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?" Esther 4:14.
The meaning of this verse, Mordecai tells Esther that her position as queen wasn’t just luck it was part of God’s plan. She had influence and opportunity that could save her people. If she stayed silent, God would still save His people another way, but she would miss her chance to be part of it.
How can you apply this verse to your life. You may be at your job, school, neighborhood, or even scrolling social media for more than “just being there.” God may have positioned you to encourage, protect, or speak up for someone. Doing the right thing might be risky, but it could be exactly what God made you for. Sometimes the very spot you’re in, even if it feels random , is actually a mission field.
We all have moments in life when we have to choose between staying comfortable and speaking up. In the book of Esther, a young woman became queen in a foreign land , not by accident, but by God’s plan. Esther could have stayed silent, but she chose courage. She fasted, prayed, and risked her life to go before the king. And because she acted, a whole nation was saved.
Being like Esther today doesn’t always mean standing before a king. It might mean speaking truth when it’s unpopular, helping someone who feels forgotten, or standing up for someone who can’t stand up for themselves. You may not feel powerful, but God has placed you exactly where you are, your job, your school, your neighborhood , for a reason. The question is, when the moment comes, will you step up?
So let’s take a lesson from Esther:
Trust God’s timing.
Pray before acting.
Use your influence to help others.
Choose courage over comfort.
Remember , you might be exactly where you are for such a time as this.
Prayer: Lord, give us the courage of Esther, the faith to trust Your timing, and the boldness to speak truth even when it’s hard. Help us stand for what’s right, knowing You have placed us here for such a time as this. Amen."
