I cannot stress enough the importance of keeping a journal during times of grief. While many may not be keen on writing, journals can go beyond just pen and paper. With the prevalence of digital technology, e-journals offer a modern alternative for those who prefer non-traditional methods. If typing isn't your style, try a video or recording your voice. These approaches can be particularly impactful when revisited later. Written words alone may not fully convey your emotions, so embrace your creativity.
IIf you have been maintaining a journal from the start, I recommend incorporating a section dedicated to gratitude and kindness. This form of journaling encourages you to consciously acknowledge the things you appreciate and to consider ways to extend kindness to others. Throughout your day, take note of the things you are thankful for and the acts of kindness you have shown to others.
Every night before going to bed, take a moment to jot down three things you are grateful for and two ways you have shared your kindness with others. Personalize your entries by reflecting on how these experiences made you feel. Start with brief notes, and as time goes on, feel free to elaborate more. You can also include:
Photos (especially the one where you’re making a weird face).
Drawings (stick figures are totally acceptable).
Quotes or poems (preferably ones that don’t involve existential dread)
Consider finding the positive aspects in any challenges you encounter during the day. Additionally, before your day begins, pray to the Holy Spirit to reveal opportunities for you to demonstrate kindness to others.
I understand that initially this might appear to be quite challenging, particularly when it comes to showing kindness to others while struggling to be kind to yourself. However, the Bible emphasizes the significance of blessing those around us.
And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” ~ Acts 20:35 (NLT) . God's blessings are not solely for our benefit; God does not bestow blessings upon us solely for our own benefit; rather, He blesses us so that we can extend those blessings to others.
PRAYER: I am so grateful, God, for the life you have bestowed upon me. Thank you for the many blessing you give me and the opportunity to be a blessing to others. I'm thankful your guidance during challenging times and the courage you've provided to confront whatever lies ahead. Above all, I am thankful for your unwavering love and support, which have helped me overcome every obstacle and continue moving forward. You are a constant source of comfort and hope, and I sincerely appreciate everything you have done for me.
